How should we treat the words in Old and New Testaments?
A friend of mine is very keen on reading the Four Gospels. However, when it comes to Paul's letters, he has doubt on them. He thinks Paul added a lot of rules to our life. At the same time, Paul was quite mean. Paul's words is not as straight foward as and as strong as Jesus's.
He believes Jesus is God and we are saved by his sacrifice. Why do we still need to learn about what is done in the time of Old Testment?

I think both Old and New Testaments tell what God want us to do. But New Testament also provide a new way (or only way) to save our lives.
About Paul, I guess his main objective is to teach how to form a good church. Honestly I feel he is kind of boring. Perhaps I am not in his level so I couldn't understanding ... BTW your "friend" isn't me, is it?

haha... =D
Interesting post...
Hmm.. yep, Jesus is God and we are saved by his sacrifice. But Heavenly Father and Holy Spirit are also God.. so we need to know them as equally as we know Jesus. No 大細超... =D
The OT tells us more about Heavenly Father.
The four gospels tells us more about about Jesus.
The epistles and books after the four gospels tells us more about Holy Spirit.
I believe reading the OT together with NT gives us a whole picture of our trinity God.
Not only this, we can also get a more full picutre on His creations, His way of interacting with human, how human nature has been "evolving" in history, and the particular three stages of God's ruling (Father's, Jesus', then the age of Holy Spirit).
