No DTV transition till June 12

26 Obama said, "If I find fifty elder and poor people not having converter box, I will not transit to DTV."

27 Then the Congress spoke up again: "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to you, though I am nothing but dust and ashes, 28 what if the number of people without converter box is five less than fifty? Will you transit to DTV because of five people?"
"If I find forty-five there," he said, "I will not do it."

29 Once again the Congress spoke to him, "What if only forty are found there?"
He said, "For the sake of forty, I will not do it."

30 Then the Congress said, "May you not be angry, but let me speak. What if only thirty can be found there?"
He answered, "I will not do it if I find thirty there."

31 The Congress said, "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to you, what if only twenty can be found there?"
He said, "For the sake of twenty, I will not do it."

32 Then the Congress said, "May you not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?"
He answered, "For the sake of ten, I will not do it."

33 When Obama had finished speaking with the Congress, he left, and the Congress returned home.

Megiddo

When Crtics Ask

Mistakes the critics make by Norman Geisler.

Norman Geisler in 'When Critics Ask' says: The Bible is without mistake, but the critics are not. All their allegations of error in the Bible are based on some error of their own. Their mistakes fall into the following main categories.

1. Assuming that the unexplained is not explainable
2. Presuming the Bible guilty until proven innocent
3. Confusing our fallible interpretations with God's infallible revelation
4. Failing to understand the context of the passage.
5. Neglecting to interpret difficult passages in the light of clear ones
6. Basing a teaching on an obscure passage
7. Forgetting that the Bible is a human book with human characteristics
8. Assuming that a partial report is a false report
9. Demanding that NT citations of the OT always be exact quotations
10. Assuming that divergent accounts are false ones
11. Presuming that the Bible approves of all its records
12. Forgetting that the Bible uses non-technical, everyday language
13. Assuming that round numbers are false
14. Neglecting to note that the bible uses different literary devices
15. Forgetting that only the original text, not every copy of scripture, is without error
16. Confusing general statements with universal ones
17. Forgetting that latter revelation supersedes previous revelation

E-mail

I sent several emails to a guy and he did not reply. I started complaining to him that he was not responding. Today I found out that I sent the emails to his old email address. How embarrass. When I am focusing how righteous I am, I will easily fall into the trap I made for myself.

I need some quiet time to slow down since I had made several silly decisions today.

Sharing

Russ shared another instance with email exchange with his customer. He didn't know whether she is a believer or not.

Customer: "When will the parts arrived?"
Russ: "According to the schedule, 3 days."
C: "Are you sure?"
R: "If there is no interruption, yes."
C: "To see is to believe."
R: "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
C: "Amen."

Sedation

Our BSF leader Russ shared his experience with sedation.

"Right before the sedation I was asking questions. Suddenly I fell asleep and on the next second I woke up. But actually hours had passed during the sedation."
"I don't remember I had asked so many questions. Next time I will control myself not to ask questions. But yet the doctor will think there is other problem on you."

"Right after the operation, the sedation was still effective. The nurse asked me for the name of my wife so that she could let her in. I told her it is Jeannie. However, when my wife came in, 'Who is Patti?', she asked. I swear that I don't know any Patti. The nurse actually asked me twice. For the first time, she heard 'Patti' and called the name outside but no one answered. For the second time, she got 'Jeannie'. But I only recalled the second time."

"Patti is the Latin for Jeannie" some classmate said.

"We have test next week."
"I blame xxx on that."
"Why don't you have your book?"
"I blame yyy on that."

Wireless Security

Why should we care about wireless security?
1. wireless data are broadcasted in the air. If you don't encrypt your data, anyone can view your data transmitted.
2. protect your computers from unauthorized access. Anyone who can access your wireless network can also access your computer.
3. prevent unauthorized access of your ISP. If a hacker used your internet to hack in other sites, spread virus or download copyright video or software, you would be held responsible for the crime.

What is wireless security?
Have you ever use two-way radio? When your friend and you tune in the same channel, you can talk with each other. However, anyone can hear your conversation when he tune in the same channel. This is similar to unsecured wireless network.

Newer two-way radio has a sub channel option. Only your friend with correct sub channel can talk with you. Other people can hear noise only. Sophisticated hacker can try all sub channel to figure out the sub channel you are on and tap in to your message. This is similar to secured wireless network with weaker encryption WEP. Hacker can break your WEP key within an hour.

Latest fix to wireless encryption is WPA. No known method to break WPA key within reasonable time. WPA key is dynamic changing in regular interval to provide extra difficulty for hacker.

Sidenote:
You should only use channel 1, 6 or 11. They are the only three non-overlap channels in United States. These should create least interference.

Amen。

Bible Study:

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

5 minutes singer

I am going to present this in Toastmaster some day but let me capture the points before I forgot.

The 3 important aspects of singing are Breathing, Pronunciation and Tone.

Breathing
1. Stretch your body and rib cage just like you warm up before exercise (I cannot illustrate here).
2. Breath in down to your stomach, not to your throat. Your throat must be relax or you will not sing in tune. You will feel your rib cage expanding on your back.
3. Sound is produced by splitting air. (Take a look at recorder or flute). Your soft palate serves this function. To learn direction air to the soft palate, try closing your lips with teeth not touching. Pronounce the sound "Hmm".
4. Your vocal chord vibrates but the sound resonance in your head through air flow. To keep the air flow and best resonance, keep your tongue forward touching your teeth and drop your jaw.

Pronunciation
1. Your lips and your tongue changes the pronunciation, not your throat.
2. You pronounce some words differently in singing. For example, Angel, Sing.
3. Pronounce the v sound in valley by bitting your lower lip.
4. The Wh sound in where should be pronounced as "Hware". The H sound starts the air flow for the word.
5. Be careful of the Th sound in Thy. It should never sounds like Die.
6. If the word starts with a vowel, you should add the consonant of the previous word. For example, Mary's (s)asleep.

Tone
1. Never tighten your throat or your will not sing the correct not. A tighten vocal chord gives you a different frequency of vibration.
2. Hear the note in your head before you sing it out. Do not try adjusting the tone
with your throat. Sing it correct the first time. If you know the note is out of tune, do not sing it. Do not settle for the wrong note.

Even though I can tell you how sing in 5 minutes, you have to practice on your own everyday to see improvements.

Not Judge, but Discern

Matthew 7 told us not to judge others in the very beginning. I have to confess that I habitually judging other. Last Sunday a brother was late for church and I immediately thought that he was getting up late. He actually got a flat tire on his car. I remind myself not to draw any conclusion without seeing the whole picture.

Jesus didn't ask us to close our eyes and block our ears and ignore what is going on outside. On the contrary, we have to discern what's right and what's wrong. With a lot of false teaching around, we must stand firm on what Bible says.

He Keeps Me Singing

We can praise our Lord when our lives are smooth. How can we keep on praising when we face an obstacle?

He Keeps Me Singing

Mary Did You Know

Receiving Holy Spirit Twice?

I was following the Bible Reading schedule and I found an interesting point on Holy Spirit. When did the disciples receive tht Holy Spirit? How different are the two "holy spirits"?

[So Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you."]
And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. (John 20:22)

And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. (Acts 2:4)

Father's day questions

Someone curiously asked me: Why the group of the fathers preformed choir on Father's day? Should they be rest and enjoy other people singing to them? My answers, two points:

1. It shows fathers serves and entertains their families all times
2. The fathers are singing to the Father up above

Evolution vs. Creationism 2

Actually I finished the whole blog from the start. I have several hundred more words, putting together the arguments and examples. But my arguments could be a bit extreme which challenge some common understanding of the Bible. So, I decide not to post it. But anyway, my conclusion is to give some breathing room for the study of Evolution; let the scientist do their research. My opinion anyway.

Evolution vs. Creationism

I read this news, saying 25% of American believe both evolution & creationism. This news makes me think.

It seems to be an untold expectation for every Christian: if you believe in Bible, you must not believe in Evolution. The reason: Bible says very clearly all lives are created by God, but not evolved by themselves.

This seems to be a fair enough argument. As an engineer, I do see many faults in Evolution theory. One killer weakness: the theory can not be verified by experiment. So people can only derive the "fact", but can not 100% prove it. This does not up to the standard of any strict science.

On the other hand, I have a relatively rebel-thinking: it may be still a good idea to let people continue the study of Evolution, even though eventually it may be proved incorrect. Evolution is a study that helps so much in modern medical advance. It also helps to explain common relationship between animal and human, fulling people's curiosity. Even though its fundamental may be flawed, for engineering perspective, it works!

To be continued ...

Now I understand why Felix uploads choir music in this blog, because it is my turn this time.

萬國也讚美主,光輝普照在世間;

How Great Thou Art!>
主啊我神﹗我每逢舉目觀看,祢手所造一切奇妙大工;
當我想到 神竟願差他兒子,降世捨命,我幾乎不領會;

All the Way My Saviour Leads Me>

He Lives

This is probably the first Christian Song I learnt (excluding Christmas songs). Our high school music teacher is a Christian. She shared her faith with the students even though we were not in a Christian school. I don't think I know her much but I still remember this song she taught.

He Lives

I serve a risen Savior, He's in the world today;
I know that He is living whatever men may say;
I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer,
And just the time I need Him, He's always near.

Chorus
He lives, He lives,
Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me
Along life's narrow way.
He lives, He lives,
Salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart.

Two is not better than one

Can you think of a situation that two is worse than one?

After being told that my car had some weird burnt smell, I took my car for oil change this morning. As usual, the job was done in an hour. I was on my way back to work. Before entering the freeway, I noticed that the engine oil light was on. I immediately found my way to the nearest parking lot and parked my car. There was no engine oil left in the engine.

I did several things right at the moment.
1. I called a brother for advice.
2. I called the shop about the situation.
3. I insisted not driving the car back to the shop.
4. I prayed.

The technician from the shop came and he found two oil filter gaskets on the oil filter. It was because the old one was still attached to the engine. Oil was leaking from space between the gaskets. He removed that extra gasket and filled up the engine with oil. My car is on the road again. Hopefully I did not over stress my car.

Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday passed quietly but the songs are still lingering in my mind. I really should have understand the lyrics deeply but time was quite limited. Here is one of the transition I did not catch.

Life of Praise.

Songs of hope shall fill the night.
Words of faith shall mark the day.
Hymns of joy shall lift my heart;
this, the life of praise.

Songs of hope will fill our nights.
Words of faith shall mark our days.
Hymns of joy will lift our hearts;
this, our life of praise.

Hey, are you a Chirstian too?

In my new working environment, I find a couple co-workers may be Christian, based on the books and decoration in their offices. Sometimes I want to ask them: "Hey are you a Christian too?" But I hesitate to speak out because I am not sure if this is "office political correct"? Perhaps I am over sensitive.

Nine

I participated a Bible game last week. Each team randomly picked a number from 1~12, then described a Bible story or term related to the number. My team picked "9". This was a tough one. For other numbers, I can quickly think of a story.

1. One God
2. Five loaves, two fish
3. Trinity
4. Four Gospel
5. Five loaves, two fish
6. 6-6-6
7. Seven day to finish the creation
8. Eight beatitudes from Jesus
9. ??
10. Ten Commandments
11. ??
12. Twelve disciples

Well, so I guess nine and eleven are a difficult ones. Any ideas?

Happy Birthday, CCCAC

The anniversary celebration came to an end. Suddenly I feel so relieved. I don't think I have taken up too much responsibilities but I am glad to be part of it. Although I am not in the church for long (compared to others), I will miss all of you. Hope I will be refreshed after the short break.

What is our stand on G.W.?

Just wonder, conservative Christians are "Religious Correct" to support traditional marriage and reject abortion. How about Global Warning? Do we have an unify stands on this? Should we support mandatory pollution control in the industry? This is a hot topic nowadays. Although this seems to be an economy question, personally I believe this is a moral issue as well. A delay of action could cost human lives silently on a daily basis. And a wrong decision could hurt our children for generations to come.

Garage Opener

Thank you for all your prayers. I did make it. My fingers are still with me and I didn't have any electric shock. I fixed the "black box" in the garage. I would never imagine that the white gear had worn out like that.

I am the one with little faith. I always asked myself if I should work on the opener or what tools I should buy. The worries lingered around me for a few days and now God sets me free. Special thanks to the handy man who helped me putting everything back in place.

Doomsday

I have heard this word in a span of one week. First someone worried our church will not be around 25 years later, because he thought as the world become worst and worst, Jesus is about time to come back. Then the doomsday clock move forward partly due to terrorism. And my friend in UK, who is not a Christian, really worries about global warming and believes the world is about to end.

While all of these are real concerns, we see doomsday precaution from time to time. And then comparing the world history of last two millennium , are we really in the lowest point globally and morally? Somehow I still feel optimistic. I am not saying that I don't welcome Jesus coming back though.

New Year Resolution

I asked God to teach me to be humble. It is not our strength or wisdom that God values most. Our wisdom is not comparable to His. He likes to use our weakness to teach us and to help others. Please don't allow Satan take control of our weakness and make us Satan's slaves. Let us explore our weakness and say no to temptation.

Hymns

I think I have got into habit practising hymns at home. There are plenty of resources that help us to get familiar with the tunes. It is especially useful if you need to learn the parts.

http://library.timelesstruths.org/music/
Interactive scores that you can change tempo and key.

http://www.cyberhymnal.org/index.htm
They have plenty of scores but you need to install the free Noteworthy viewer or plugin. http://www.noteworthysoftware.com/composer/download.htm

Basically the whole hymn book is up there.

Outreach Night

After the weekend preparation of the mailing packages, the publicity portion of the outreach came towards the end. Now we can keep our focus in prayer for the guest coming to the event.
We should give special thanks to
1. Our chief artist for the poster design.
2. Our webmaster for the webpage design.
3. Our media coordinator for the media connection and poster posting.
4. Our manager for looking over all the details.
5. Last but not least, all of you for sacrifying your weekend to prepare the packages.

Still keep praying for
1. The magnets would be delivered on time.
2. The invitation letters would be reached to the appropriate audience.

Should we care ...

What do think? Do we need to do care about Pope's speech / apology to Muslim recently?

1. Don't Care. We are Christian. He is Cathalic.
2. We should support his words
3. Avoid the wording, but support him
4. Just stay away with this topic, you don't want to get into trouble.
5. Why care? Does it matter with my Christian life?
6. I don't understand this question.
7. Others

John the Baptist and Jesus

In Matthew 11, it reads
When John heard in prison what Christ was doing, he sent his disciples to ask him, "Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?" (Matthew 11:2-3)

It seems that John did not know who Jesus is.  However,
1. John's mother and Jesus' mother were relatives.
2. John was the one who baptized Jesus.
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" (Matthew 3:13-14)

How should we interpret the seemingly contradicting passages?

Know, Understand, Feel, and Experience

After talking to Micah, I have learnt more about communication and relationship with God. And this morning, the following come across my mind:

Know: This is the first step. We have to know HIM. It is the job for Christian to spread the gospel.

Understand: We should spend time to study Bible, so we can understand God and HIS work. If we spend 20+ years full-time to study in school, we surely need to spend more time to learn about God.

Feel: To get closer with God, I think we need to feel HIM, like our family, our friends. For example, from history book, we learn many things about historical people, but we hardly feel closed to them. But Jesus is different, we learn about him from Bible. But we should still able to feel HIM because HE is still with us. In the last couple years, I start to gain this feeling.

Experience: To gain close relationship with God, I think the best way is to experience HIM. But actually I can't talk too much for this point, because I don't have any strong experience with God. From friend's sharing and Bible, I see people who have experienced God. Simply says, they are different. My favourite example is Paul. From a punk who messed up with Christian, to a fearless warrior who spread Jesus name. That was a huge turn-around.

One question as usual: How do we experience God!? From all the stories I heard, most time God come to them. It is not like they need to pray for it.

Taboo Question 1

Related to sex stuff, read at your own risk ....

In the movie "The Da Vinci Code", Tom Hanks asked this question:
I believe Jesus is God. But even Jesus has a child on earth, does it really conflict with his divine status?

First of all, I need to proclaim that I don't believe Jesus had an affair with Mary Magdalene or had a child. But I have a few questions.

1. I have an understanding that Jesus didn't have sexual desire. This is OK to me. Just a fact. But I also have an impression that Jesus didn't have sexual desire because it is bad. Does Bible really mention sex is bad?

2. I have learnt Jesus had bear many weakness of human body, such as pain and fear (he prays for God's mercy before getting caught). Then why can't he also bear sexual desire?

3. Jesus is our example to be a perfect man. He had a human body and show how to be good. But I guess he may cheat a little .... A lot of sins are related to sex. How Jesus show us to avoid those sins if he did not have this problem at all?

Rumors and News

News (especially bad ones) and rumors are spreading fast with the information boom. The same happens inside the church.  I dare not to say I never spread rumors.  Moreover, you can never assume the one next to you knows nothing about your secret.  Given the amount of news I have heard over the last 2 years, what would be the biblical way to resolve the pressure?  I have a urge to talk over the news with brothers but at the same time I feel extremely guilty of spreading rumors, especially when my news source does not authorize me to spread the news.

Da Vinci Code, The movie

I watched this movie last week, because of 2 reasons:
1. Want to watch Tom Hanks
2. I don't understand the ending of the book. What did Robert Langdor realize? Mona Lisa!? Maybe the movie can explain better.

Review of the movie, 2 things:
1. Tom Hanks lost weight
2. Still don't understand the ending of the movie. What did Robert Langdor realize? Anyone offer help?

God is listening

Case 1: Prayer Requests

In the retreat last week, I raised a question during panel discussion: If God know everything we need, why still pray for any specific request? It will not change God's mind anyway. In the same night, the people next to my room played so loud and so late till 2am. I can't sleep. Now I know what to pray specifically: Guys please go to bed soon! Well God gave me a good lesson.

Case 2: Bible Study

Recently, I'm looking for a Bible Study group within the company. I ask around and search for web but got nothing. Last week I passed by someone's office and saw a Bible on his desk. I didn't know this guy. But I want to check out if he knows any BS group here. Today I go to his office and start the conversation: I saw you have a Bible and I am a Christian ... Then he immediately told me they have a Bible Study lunch meeting every Wednesday, and invite me to join them!

God and Logic

I once read a book from 李天命. He mentions that Logic is the most strictly analysis process. Based on Logic, he derives many argument to question Bible and God. One classic paradox he likes to use: Can God make a rock so big, that even he can't lift it?

I spend some times to study the best explanation to counter this argument. There are a few good one but all seem to argue within the scope of Logic analysis.

Then my question: Is God beyond Logic!?

I think Yes. Human can only understand Logic within our brain limit. Plus, does Logic really can explain everything!? I don't think Logic can explain the creation of Universe. From nothing to something. Logic and any Science can't explain that. In another word, human can't explain anything beyond the point of creation, not even mention the Creator.

Genesis Trivia

- In Genesis 30, Jacob negotiated a new contract with Laban. They agreed that all non-white sheep were wages to Jacob. Being a deceiver, Laban sent away all non-white sheep on the same day. Jacob reacted by putting striped almond branches in front of the sheep and the sheep would give birth to striped sheep. (This is similar to parents-to-be put up cute baby posters in their room in hope for cute baby) Genetically, this would not work. However, it was God's blessing on Jacob to make it happen.

- Jacob had 12 sons. Levi's descendents did not receive any inheritance but Joseph's received twice as much (through his two sons). Historically, the eldest son received twice as much inheritance as the other sons.

Book introduction

I am reading a book called 游子吟. I like it very much. I feel the author has similar style of mine. Lots of questions and has strong interest on natural science. He is much more knowledgeable though. This book describes his thinking process from a non-believer to a Christian. Reading this book is like talking to a friend who answering many of my Q&A stuff. This is the table of content:

I first jump around on the chapters I am interested the most, which are 1, 3, 6. The author often introduces new yet interesting question. For example, Darwin's theory was introduced about 150 years ago. Back then the society in Europe was still heavily favor on Christianity. But why this theory could gain such popularity so quickly? The author then answers this own questions.

This book is claimed to be quite popular. Sold 600,000 copies with three edition. Anyway, paper back is just $8. And a web site has the full content:

Why I buy Chinese Stocks (3)

My brothers ordered many dishes. It included all kind of animal I had never heard of. I enjoyed the food though. At the end we had a lot of left over. I want to box up some. Then my mother told me people usually didn't take left over when they ate there. Too troublesome I guessed. Well, seriously I didn't want to waste food so I insisted. But, I would regret I did that.

So we continued driving back home. Once we entered Zhuhai downtown I saw a lot of beautiful lighting on the streets. It was pretty late already, yet there were still many people hanging out. It really was a city full of energy. I felt proud of my home country. When we reached the custom, we need to leave the car and walked over for custom check. This joyful trip was about to end. I was holding a bag of leftover and then I closed the car's door.

Suddenly, someone pull very hard on the bag of my food. My first thought: robbers! But when I turn back, I saw no one. Then I looked down. I saw a little girl, around 7~8 years old, was pulling my bag. Besided her there was a shy little boy, seemed to be her little brother. This girl spoke to me in Mandarin: Give me, give me. I didn't eat for two days already. To be exact, these was what she said:

This girl was a beggar I believed. Did she really eat nothing for two days!? I doubted. But watching a little kid begging for food, I felt bitter. My first reaction was to give her the food. But a defensive thinking came to my mind. If I gave her the food now, what would happen? Would other beggars rush to me for more? I couldn't handle that... So I hold on this bag for some moment, while she kept pulling for the food. At the same time I yelled to my mom if I could give this girl the food. My mother was surprise to see this situation but she immediately said yes. So I released the bag. The girl said thank you to my mother (not me) then started to run. I wanted to give the girl some money, but I hesitated for other consideration. Then she disappeared inside the crowd.

After I went back Macao, I were very unhappy for many days. I was upset although there were many modern development in mainland, some children still need to beg for food on street. I was more upset about myself. Why couldn't I just give her the food without so many second thought. Imaging a picture of a big guy fighting food with a little girl ... shame!

Now when I pray before dinning, I truly felt the mercy God had put upon me. I thanks HIM for providing me food, without the need of begging. In big dinner such as Thanksgiving and Christmas, sometimes I recall the face of that little girl.

It has been five years already. This girl should be a teenager now. I hoped her life had improved. I understand no country can eliminate all poverty. But I felt sad to see kids begging for food in the middle of a modern city downtown. I offer my prayer for a better life of ordinary people in China. I also buy some Chinese stocks hoping to help the economic and creates more jobs there.

Why I buy Chinese Stocks (2)

My brother had a mainland driving license, so he drove for this trip. Once we crossed the border of Zhuhai (珠海), most of the time we stayed on the highways. In the old days, it took 7 hours to get to Foshen. This time, it took less than 3 hours. One minor complain, we stopped eight times meeting some good looking young ladies ... they were cashiers collecting road fee.

We spend a nice afternoon in Foshen. Surely it had great developments. Tall buildings and nice shopping malls everywhere. We met relatives and enjoyed the local food. In the evening we headed back to Macao. Around 8pm, when we were nearby Zhuhai, we felt hungry. My brother decided to bring us to eat.

His drove his car off the highway, going into some bumping countryside roads. He kept driving for 10 minutes. Now it was getting very dark outside. I guess we were driving inside a farm. I started to feel uneasy and ask where we were heading to? He said we would eat something nice. I doubted. Did he get lost?

Finally I saw some light ahead of us. In the middle of nowhere, there was a big house with decorative lightnings. My brother said that was the restaurant for our dinner. What kind of restaurant would locate in such a remote area? Then my brother said we would eat wild life animals (野味)!!

[to be continued ... last section tomorrow]

Sharing: Why I buy Chinese Stocks

There is a personal story I want to share for sometimes. Sometimes mean around five years. Whenever in special days like Thanksgiving and Christmas, when there are a lot of nice food on the table, I recall this experience. However, this was a very unpleasant incident. I didn't know how to start this sharing in the Fellowship.

This July, I will go back to Macao/China for visit. That experience flash back to my memory again, because it happened in China. I guess, blog space is the easiest place for me to share this story.

In the summer of 2001, I went to Macao for vacation. My family kept telling me there had been a lot of positive change in mainland. They will show me around all the great development in the country. In fact, I am looking forward to. On Saturday, me. my elder brother, my mother, and my nephew, were ready to visit my home town, where is Foshen (佛山). This supposed to be a fun one-day trip. What I didn't expect, I were about to encounter something that made me very unhappy for the rest of my vacation.

[to be continued .. two days later, haven't finish all the writing]

Be Strong in the Lord

Be strong in the Lord and be of good courage, your mighty defender is always the same. Mount up with wings as the eagle ascending, victory is sure when you call on His name.

* Be strong, be strong, be strong in the Lord, and be of good courage for He is your guide. Be strong, be strong, be strong in the Lord, and rejoice, for the victory is yours.

So put on the armor the Lord has provided, and place your defense in His unfailing care. Trust Him for He will be with you in battle, lighting your path to avoid every snare.

* Repeat

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil." Ephesians 6:10-11

Long answers

When I google some answer on Christian question, I often see those loooong article that make me marry-go-around without straight answer. Seriously I feel pretty frustrating on this kind of writing. Why can't they just straight to the point. If I answer my boss's question like that, I am sure I have been long gone.

My explanation: there is no definite answers for many spiritual questions. It really depends on how we interpret the Bible. So people just point out every scenarios. Then we, as readers, make our own judgement.

Aging Problem

Yes.  We have aging problem in our society.  And yes, we also have aging problem in church, especially for Chinese congregation.  It is not merely that we all get older.  It is our mentality and our spirit.  The younger generations are not as energetic or creative as the older generations.  We just don't want to get involved.  This is not a good sign, but what can we do?

your first name, my last name

For Christian couples, I realize the wife, almost all, change to use her husband's last name. I wonder if this is something that Bible suggest to do. Or simply a tradition for Christian, or perhaps just Hong Kong people. I find most couples from main land China don't do that.

Mine survivor

The sole miner survivor released one last comment about the tragedy. I find this lines are pretty touching and inspiring:

"We were worried and afraid, but we began to accept our fate," he wrote. "Junior Toler led us all in the Sinners Prayer" — a prayer for salvation of one's soul.

McCloy wrote. "The last person I remember speaking to was Jackie Weaver, who reassured me that if it was our time to go, then God's will would be fulfilled."

All 12 trapped miner died except Randal McCloy, who had been in comma for about a month after the tragedy.

Why God wanted to become human

Someone asks me this old question: Why God need to turn himself into human (Jesus) to save us?

My interpretation of the question is: why God need to use such strange way to save human being? Any practical reason? My answer is to show HIS Love. And in the old time people need to kill animal to erase their sin. So Jesus do it all using his holy blood. But my answer isn't too convincing I guess ...

But now I have question too. In the old testimony, why need to kill animal to erase our sin? It is not their fault. And they have animal right too.

What can we do?

What can we do/not do as a Christian?
1. Can we watch movies?
2. Can we smoke?
3. Can we drink wine?
4. Can we play mahjong/Big 2?
5. Can we play video games?
6. Can we become a businessman?
7. Can we become insurance agent, financial adviser or any job based on commission?
8. Can a Pastor drive a sport car?

I won't list every possible question.  However, we've got to find a general rule of thumb on these issues.

Applications

This is a quote from Pastor Paul Sheppard on a radio promo:
"Stop talking to people who have your problems and start talking to people who have your solutions."
While this sounds right, do we have any Bible reference for this?

singing

When we sing a song in church, quite often the music lead asks people to sing like this:
- girls sing 1st part
- guys sing 2nd part
- then sing together

Any particular reason we like to do this so often? I think of a few:

1. let people to catch a breath
2. so we know how bad guy can sing
3. more variety
4. Bible teach us to do so !?

The World? The Spirit?

1 John 2:15-16:

Ephesians 2:2:

Philippians 4:11:

Genesis 1:28

1:28 And God gave them his blessing and said to them, Be fertile and have increase, and make the earth full and be masters of it; be rulers over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing moving on the earth.

Sometimes I feel Genesis 1:28 is the 1st task God gave mankind. But in recent years, I heard all the news about global warning. Sometimes I wonder, do we all screw up God's 1st assignment to us?

Limit Atonement

I remembered someone mentioned about this concept long time ago.  But I forgot until today bible class.  Jesus died for the believers only.  How does this conflict with the Bible?

Can you feel the Love

A few years ago, I often chat with a co-worker, who has a daughter, about childcare stuff. She expressed the strong relationship between her and her daughter. I told her I can UNDERSTAND the love between a mother and a daughter. But I can not FEEL it.

Now I become a father, I can feel this love. It is totally different than just understanding it.

I am thinking about my relationship with God. I read Bible and listen sharing from bro/sis. I have no doubt that Jesus has deep love to me and everyone in this world. But do I really feel his love? How do I feel more his love?

Once Saved Always Saved

We had a Bible Study last Friday and we touched on this topic again.

The passage we studied was Hebrew 6:6-8. Our understand of the passage was that once you put shame on the name of Jesus, you are nailing Jesus on the cross again. There will be no way out.

Guess who?

"It is fascinating. In the West, you have bigger homes, yet smaller families; you have endless conveniences -- yet you never seem to have any time. You can travel anywhere in the world, yet you don't bother to cross the road to meet your neighbours," he said.

Do you think the above words are quite meaningful? Can you guess who say that?

Dalai Lama.

I am not a big fan of Dalia Lama but sometimes I feel what he says is quite insightful. Now as usual I have a question: Is it OK for a Christian to like words from other religious figure?
